“I realize that the connective tissue, the oneness of us all, clearly rests before me in the form of a photograph. I see myself in every image, I see my DNA, I see my soul, and the collective soul of humanity in each and every print.” – Colin Finlay

From his first photographic projects Colin Finlay has mapped out his style, his issues and his trajectory. From the early work engaging powerfully and directly with the cruel miseries and cultural dysfunction of the “Troubles” in the north of Ireland, to the latest work chronicling the degradation of our beloved earth, Finlay has kept his heart on his sleeve and his intense intelligence and gaze firmly on the bigger story that always lies behind the story, behind the headlines, behind the photo opportunity and behind the short term assignment.

Colin Finlay is one of the foremost documentary photographers in the world. He has been awarded the prestigious Picture of the Year International (POYi) honor six times. His work has been honored by prestigious organizations such as the Lucie Award/IPA, POYi, New York Art Directors, Photo District News (PDN), Applied Arts, International Center for Photography, and the Academy of Television Arts and Sciences. His photographs have been featured in Vanity Fair, TIME, U.S. News and World Report, American Photo, Los Angeles Times Magazine, Asia Week, World Health Organization, UNICEF, Photographic Magazine, Communication Arts and Discovery.
